Adaptive Robotics & Technology (ART) Lab

Welcome to the ART Lab!

Directed by Dr. Kiju Lee, the Adaptive Robotics and Technology (ART) Lab develops intelligent, adaptive, and resilient robotic systems capable of operating reliably in complex, dynamic, and unstructured real-world environments. Our research brings together design-driven robotics, embodied intelligence, autonomous systems, multi-robot coordination, and human–robot collaboration to create robotic technologies that can perceive, adapt, and act effectively under real-world uncertainty.

We pursue both fundamental advances in robotics and their translation into practical systems, with applications spanning defense, agriculture, field robotics, and other emerging domains. Through the integration of novel robotic mechanisms, intelligent autonomy, sensing and perception, and human-centered interaction, we seek to expand what robots can accomplish beyond controlled laboratory settings.

A defining focus of ART is bridging the gap between robotic innovation and real-world deployment. By combining fundamental research, system-level integration, and large-scale field experimentation and validation, we advance robotic technologies from new concepts and algorithms to deployable systems with meaningful societal impact.

Ongoing Research Projects

Our ongoing projects address emerging challenges in robotics through interdisciplinary research and real-world experimentation. From intelligent and adaptive robotic systems to multi-robot coordination, human–robot collaboration, and field robotics, these projects translate new ideas in design, autonomy, and embodied intelligence into technologies for complex real-world applications.
